Vodafone McLaren Mercedes is delighted to announce a new partnership with Processia Solutions – a Canadian PLM (product lifecycle management) implementation specialist who will work alongside the team to improve the software associated with the design, build and integration of its Formula 1 cars.

Processia’s role will be key during the design and development stage: their comprehensive suite of services can streamline and harmonise a variety of separate production processes to improve productivity and efficiency.

And, for 2010, Processia’s contribution to Vodafone McLaren Mercedes will be particularly timely.

As Formula 1 looks for more ways to reduce costs and improve efficiency, Processia’s ability to streamline and integrate existing design and production information will enable the team to operate more rapidly and harmoniously – while simultaneously saving money.

Jonathan Neale, McLaren Racing’s managing director, added: “In a Formula 1 team, you’re always looking at ways to increase productivity, reduce production time and lower costs, while improving lap time.

“Our relationship with Processia Solutions enables us to not only manage the many and varied needs of a Formula 1 race team in an efficient way, but also helps us to improve and streamline many of those methods – which provides us with a competitive advantage.”

Processia’s partnership with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes will also act as a showcase for the firm’s establishment in the United Kingdom and Europe.

“Our involvement with the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team marks a major milestone in the implementation of Processia Solutions throughout Europe,” said Processia’s vice-president Vincent Fraser. “We’re delighted to be able to showcase our expertise in product lifecycle management within Formula 1 – one of the toughest, most demanding and unforgiving environments in the world.

“This relationship will also clearly demonstrate that success in Formula 1 needn’t come at the highest cost, but through working in the most efficient and elegant way. “And our partnership with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes showcases that perfectly.”

About Processia Solutions

About Vodafone McLaren Mercedes
New Zealand racing driver Bruce McLaren founded the McLaren team in 1963. It entered its first grand prix in 1966 and won its first Formula 1 race in 1968. More than 40 years and 164 grand prix victories later, McLaren is still renowned as one of the sport’s most successful competitors and as one of the world’s most illustrious high-technology brands.

The McLaren Group has grown to encompass much more than just racing. It houses a cutting-edge electronics division that not only services the entire Formula 1 grid, but also many racing series across the globe. McLaren Applied Technologies creates cutting-edge solutions for modern industry while McLaren Automotive not only produced the 1990s’ original supercar, the F1, and the unique Mercedes-Benz SLR but has recently unveiled the prototype of its newest vehicle – the MP4-12C.

The team kicks off its 2010 campaign with a stunning driver pairing: 2009 world champion Jenson Button and 2008 world champion Lewis Hamilton. It is the first time since 1989 – when it ran Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna – that the team has fielded a joint-world champion driver line-up, and marks the first time in Formula 1 history that the sport’s two most recent world champions have been partnered together.

A business information portal dedicated to PLM (product lifecycle management) software for the fashion and textile industry is being launched by just-style in the New Year.

The just-style PLM hub will provide executives and decision makers in the apparel industry with information including an introduction to PLM, news and announcements, vendor white papers and interviews.

The free-to-view service, which will go live during the first week of January, will also post company profiles and a complete vendor directory.

PLM software enables fashion firms to manage rapid response times, constant order changes and short product lifecycles across complex global supply chains.

Leading apparel and footwear companies know that managing their product supply chain with the right PLM solution is particularly crucial given the current global economic slowdown.

Indeed, the flow of new fashions to entice consumers into stores, boosting full price sales, and keeping smaller inventories gives them a competitive edge at a time when they need it most.

Dassault Systèmes is the lead PLM vendor supporting the hub.

John Squire, vice president of marketing for Dassault Systèmes’ Enovia brand said: “just-style’s hub is an ideal platform for Dassault to drive global brand awareness and expand our leadership position in the market for retail, footwear and apparel PLM solutions.”

To register to be notified as soon as the Buyers’ Guide to PLM Software is launched, click here.

The growing trend in the use of PLM as an evironmental tool has increased with the announcement that IBM is launching an Environmental Product Lifecycle Management consulting service. The offering will help clients make their products more eco-friendly from development and manufacturing through delivery and use to end-of-life reclamation and recycling.

With the ability to analyze every phase of a product’s existence, IBM will ensure the design be environmentally friendly from the beginning. This includes considering the materials used to make and package it, the energy needed to produce it, transport and use it, and designing it to be refurbished or recycled when it’s no longer useable.

“The days of using inordinate amounts of energy, toxic chemicals and wasteful packaging to create throwaway products that just get tossed in the landfill are coming to an end,” said Mark Wilterding, IBM’s global leader for product lifecycle management consulting.

“Governments, environmental advocacy groups, and most of all consumers are demanding that companies do better, and designing a product from the start to be eco-friendly throughout its lifetime is the most effective way to do that.”

Majenta PLM, the UK reseller of Siemens PLM Software, has confirmed that it has reached an agreement with Napier Turbochargers Ltd to supply and support the implementation of a Product Lifecycle Management solution based on Siemens PLM Software’s NX™ and Teamcenter® software suites.

Napier Turbochargers began manufacturing turbochargers in 1947. However, the Napier name goes back to the early 1800s and in its history it has been behind such achievements as a series of land, air and water speed world records and the famous Napier Railton racing car of 1933. Today, Napier is one of the largest independent manufacturers in the world of large axial turbochargers for use in the marine, power generation and rail traction industries.

“The PLM solution that Majenta PLM is supplying and is helping us to implement will help to ensure that the right product information is at the right place at the right time”, said Andy Thacker, managing director, Napier Turbochargers Limited. “It is therefore crucial to the continued development of our range of products and to the success of the ambitious growth plans we have in each of our markets, where we are already recognized as a leading supplier.”

“Napier is renowned as an innovative company with an excellent suite of products delivering high technical performance,” he added. “I am pleased that the business has been acquired by a shareholder that is committed to investing further in R&D to maintain its technology and in the expansion of the business to meet customer demand”.

Trevor Stapleton, sales director, Majenta PLM, stated, “The Napier heritage includes such world-famous achievements as a series of land speed, air speed and water speed world records in the late 1920s and early 1930’s that culminated in the land speed record of 394.196 mph set in 1947. We are therefore delighted to be selected by the modern-day descendent, Napier Turbochargers Ltd, to provide and support the technology that will help the company build on its heritage and on its much more recent successes”.
